All Christians are called to be active stewards of the Gospel. Deacon Joseph Artesi of the diocese of Stockton took this call seriously, spending much of his life tending to the needs of others. As a standard bearer of Catholic social teaching, he served the poor and marginalized, but was most well-known for establishing the first permanent migrant camps in California in the 1960’s. His homilies rarely preached his own accomplishments, rather gave full glory to Jesus.
